Minerals from the Werlau-Wellmicher range of veins, near St. Goar
and St. Goarshausen,
Rhine
from the Rhineland-Palatinate

The Werlau-Wellmicher-range of veins is situated in the area called middle rhine
and spread over the higlands Hunsrück and Taunus
.

Till 1961 mined were hydrothermal veins,
especially galena and sphalerite.

The range of veins is devided into left-rhine and right-rhine-occurring veins.
Left to the river rhine are the deposits near St. Goar Werlau
respectively St. Goar Fellen with the Prinzenstein mine, also known as
Gute Hoffnung mine.
Right from the river rhine are those near St. Goarshausen Ehrenthal
respectively St. Goarshausen Wellmich.

Both deposits were connected via the "rhine way" 130 m under
the river, so that the mine was summerized
as mine Consolidated Gute Hoffnung.

For the collector the following minerals are of importance:

sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite,
calcite, dolomite, apatite, pyrite,
flos ferri, and a
various Lead-Zinc-Copper-secondary mineral paragenesis

Mineralogically known are up to 70 cm tall quartzes, especially rock crystals
in combination with sulfid-carbonate minerals.
